Created By Firefighters From the Frontlines to You Strength you can trust Built On Bravery
Proudly crafted in the USA, Thurly Gear places unparalleled emphasis on quality, ensuring our product meets the high standards expected by those in emergency services.
About The Founders
Thurly Gear was founded on the principles of innovation and practicality, born from the real-world needs of two dedicated firefighters. Cody Thurmon and Christopher Wesley, Louisiana natives, began their journey with the Baton Rouge Fire Department in 2006, spending much of their careers side by side on the same crew. Confronted with an increasing number of lift assist calls, they embarked on a search for a solution to ease the process. Despite exploring various options, they found that existing lifting devices fell short of their practical needs.
Driven by necessity and armed with our firsthand experience on the frontline, we set out to create what we needed ourselves. The result of our efforts is The LAD (The Lift-Assist Device), a product meticulously designed to meet the demands of emergency services personnel. The LAD embodies our vision, offering an optimal balance of portability, ease of use, hygiene, and durability. It stands as a testament to our commitment to providing practical, reliable solutions for our fellow firefighters and emergency responders, ensuring that they have the right tools to perform their duties efficiently and safely.
Born from Experience, Built for Quality
At ThurlyGear, our mission is centered around equipping first responders with the tools and equipment they need to excel in their roles. Crafted with pride in the USA, our emphasis on quality is second to none. As firefighters, we understand the demands of the job firsthand, which is why we create products that we ourselves would rely on—gear that’s made for use, not for storage. We design our equipment to endure the harsh realities of emergency scenarios, where durability is not just a feature, but a necessity.
Incredibly Strong and Durable
The LAD is extremely strong and durable. It can be used to lift individuals up to 500 pounds without compromising the safety of the lifters or their patients. This recommendation stems from the consideration of the physical limitations inherent to the operators.
Compact Design
The LAD’s compact design is a significant advantage. Its small footprint allows it to be conveniently packed away in your first-aid bag, guaranteeing that it is always at hand when needed. This eliminates any need to return to the rig for equipment, enhancing efficiency and readiness in critical situations.
Easy To Clean & Use
The product boasts an exceptionally easy cleaning process. It is designed for convenience and efficiency, allowing users to effortlessly maintain it by hosing it down, wiping it with disinfectant wipes on the scene, or scrubbing it with soapy water. This ensures that it is promptly ready for subsequent use without any delay.
Patient Friendly
Traditionally, lifting patients involves grabbing their arms, which can be uncomfortable and even painful, especially for those with injuries or mobility issues. However, with The LAD, this discomfort is a thing of the past. By distributing the patient's weight onto their thighs, rather than relying on arm support, The LAD eliminates unnecessary strain and provides a more dignified and comfortable experience for the patient.
During testing, we determined the device possesses a breaking point of 2,900 pounds! That’s Strength!
Nonetheless, for optimal safety and effectiveness, we advise against its application on individuals exceeding 500 pounds. This recommendation stems from the consideration of the physical limitations inherent to the operators.

In terms of usability, The LAD excels in simplicity and effectiveness. To deploy, simply remove it from its pouch, position it underneath the patient, and lift. This product has been thoughtfully designed to avoid unnecessary complexity, ensuring that it is both quick to deploy and practical, thus preventing it from being sidelined and accumulating dust on the rig.
